Food Sovereignty Tours, Program Manager 


ABOUT US: Food Sovereignty Tours is a program of Food First/the Institute for Food and Development Policy. We create international and domestic travel experiences that focus on understanding local and global struggles for food sovereignty. We currently have tours to Bolivia, Cuba, Mexico, Spain, Italy and South Korea. These tours are organized by Tour Coordinators who are responsible for developing the content, itineraries and budgets for individual tours.

We are looking for a person to provide central program management from our office in Oakland, CA, including administration, website maintenance, marketing/outreach and customer service. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, experience in non-profit administration, marketing experience, extensive travel experience and a passion for food justice/food sovereignty.

Hours: 25 hours per week (one year contract, with six-month review)
Salary: commensurate with experience

Skills/Experience Required:
– 1-2 years experience in administration or a non-profit office
– Superior communication skills; excellent writing and interpersonal skills
– Proficient in Microsoft Office, WordPress and standard social media platforms
– Ability to work in a highly independent, organized and self-directed manner
– Ability to manage a diverse team of people, coordinate and delegate tasks
– Proficiency (speaking, writing and comprehension) in Spanish (French a plus)
– Engaged in political activism around sustainable food and agriculture
– Travel experience in the global South preferred

Position Responsibilities:
– Communicate on a regular basis with Tour Coordinators (TCs) responsible for different tour destinations
– Assist TCs in finalizing tour budgets, itineraries, web copy and marketing materials
– Keep website updated with current tour information
– Provide customer service to potential travelers and registered participants via phone and email
– Process tour applications, and collect all required forms, documentation and payments from participants
– Manage social media, photo-sharing and other online accounts
– Oversee the creation of new content for web and print marketing (e.g. articles, recipe blogs, photo essays, etc) by TCs and office interns
– Market the program and individual tours through list servs, newsletters, university email lists, etc.
